Special Needs Today: by parents, for parents was set-up by Nigel Armitage, the 50 something parent of a 14 year old child who has special needs.
Having spent 14 years taking a real interest in his child’s care, Nigel and his wife discovered much to their surprise that there is not a “one-stop shop” web resource which provided information on the multiple medical conditions suffered by their child.
Special Needs Today has been created in the hope of filling that gap by providing timely, accurate information, written wherever possible in plain English.
In particular, the site is aimed at:
Parents and carers: helping them support their child from the point of diagnosis with a condition and thereafter all the way through their journey in caring for their child;
Medical professionals: it is not always easy and can be very time consuming for busy medics when faced with a barrage of questions from parents and carers regarding a new diagnosis of a condition. Special Needs Today aims to address that issue by giving access to medical professionals who can download and pass on information to anxious parents
Educators: from special schools to academies this site aims to provide a platform for educational professionals to access information on conditions which can be used both in school and disseminated to parents and carers.
